the person doing the words

Hello and Welcome

I’m Denica, a half writer, half teacher living in Asia. I was in Tokyo for four years and I’ve been in China for the past one. This patch of mine is for daily musings, travel, photography, fiction and anything else that pops into my head.

Leaving the U.K for something more tangible than 8 to 5, I vaguely decided that I’d travel. Over the years I’ve found myself having thoughts and ideas I’d like to share with people. It took me a while to work up the courage, as putting anything into the ether feels as if you’re saying ‘I am inherently interesting. Come, marvel at me’.

Eventually, I moved past this and decided I’d use this patch to informally create a blog about the things I encounter, and the hiccoughs of living abroad. Since then I’ve been published in Tokyo Weekender, Gaijin Pot Travel, National Geographic, and some others too. Perhaps you’ll indulge me by reading a little around the blog. Either way, I hope you enjoy.
